Position Summary

The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range.

The Adult Education Program Coordinator assists the Program Director with the strategic and administrative operations of the adult education department. The individual in this position provides coordination and support for adult education department programs and services, works collaboratively with departments throughout the college, as well as with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Reports to: Director I, Adult Education

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Strategic Planning 25%

  • Assists the Program Director in managing the growth of the program and provides input, vision, and support in the design and implementation of the program processes.  
  • Collaborate with Program Director and Adult Education staff to develop, implement, and meet program goals and performance measures in accordance with the program’s Data Quality Plan.
  • Maintains an awareness of available community services to share with instructors and students.
Program Coordination 50%
  • Oversees scheduling of classes and ways to increase class opportunities within the community.
  • Conducts data entry of schedules and coordinates with scheduling on all campuses. Complete updates to integrated data systems to reflect accurate data. 
  • Follows the continuing education production timeline.
  • Coordinates the recruitment, hiring, and training of new ESL and ABE instructors.
  • Supports Intake and Assessment Specialists with ABE and ESL registrants.
  • Assist with registration sessions, post-testing of current students, and create strategies for increased efficiencies.
  • Increases student recruitment through contact with local employers and key community representatives and WIOA partners as well as other efforts and initiatives.
  • Participate in open houses, community events, and other promotional activities.
  • Participate in Adult Education statewide committees and conferences, CSM workgroups, and professional development classes.
  • Aid the Program Director in preparation for monitoring visits from the Department of Labor, collaboration of mid-year and end of year reports, and yearly grant application.
Administrative Support 25%
  • Supports efficient day-to-day operations of the Adult Education Program, ensuring a welcoming, student-friendly environment.
  • Communicates and coordinates with partnering agencies in collaboration with the Director of Adult Education.
  • Coordinates software support for instructors and students.
  • Leads yearly graduation planning.
  • Coordinates with other college departments as appropriate.

Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Education and Training

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with ESL and/or ABE adult learners. 

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Conversant in the Spanish language and familiarity with the Hispanic culture preferred. 
  • Experience with student recruitment and retention activities preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Aptitude for working in a culturally diverse environment; ability to interact patiently and diplomatically with a wide variety of constituencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, community groups, educators, and other stakeholders.
  • Schedule flexibility – some nights and/or weekends required.
  • Demonstrates integrity, honesty, teamwork, and genuine commitment to education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
