Position Summary:
The Director of Career Success is responsible for providing visionary leadership and direction of career success programs and activities including, experiential learning (apprenticeships, co-ops, and internships), employer on-campus recruitment visits, community resource events, career success and readiness workshops, industry/sector summits, and/or information sessions (i.e. Orientations). Lead the overall management, promotion, and internal and external communications with students, alumni, and community members for new career/employment events. Develop and implement career/employment programming to serve different student populations including workers in transition, veterans, returning citizens, under-skilled workers, displaced/disconnected youth, and the long-term unemployed. Create cross-campus partnerships with key departments to support students along their academic journey as they pursue career opportunities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively plan, lead, and supervise career success programs including employer recruitment events, job fairs, community resource events, employment readiness workshops, industry/sector-based summits, and employer orientations.
- Provide direction, supervision, and training to career success center staff. Recruit, hire, and evaluate all personnel assigned to the department.
- Directly responsible for effectively implementing and managing the Experiential Learning function, including but not limited to Apprenticeships, Co-Ops, and Internships providing pathways to career success.
- Develop overall career services event management plans including the budget, target audiences, facilities, and campus resource needs that support overall department and institutional goals.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate new technology, procedures, and systems to support career success center operations.
- Coordinate and develop career success information & promotional packets and other materials for distribution.
- Oversee continuous improvement initiatives including but not limited to surveys and assessments to regularly assess the effectiveness of new student, alumni, and community programming and services to support overall career success.
- Work with the Marketing, Communications, and PR Department to schedule, publicize, and promote career success services and programs.
- Collaborate with the Instructional Division, College and Career Readiness + Workforce & Community Development Departments to increase the impact and overall visibility of the Center’s programs and services.
- Assist students, alumni, and other customers with career planning, job search strategies, interviewing, and other employment readiness techniques as needed.
- Identify, pursue, and manage grant-funded programs and initiatives that support the overall strategic direction of the college and operational plans for the Center.
- Develop goals, plans, and procedures, to improve effectiveness and efficiency of all operations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President and Executive Director or designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, business, communications, or other related fields required.
- Management experience directly supervising full-time staff with ability to lead teams and work collaboratively.
- Experience in presentation and public speaking, as well as excellent oral, written communication skills.
- Experience in developing program goals, evaluating outcomes and monitoring expenditures.
- Experience with managing program and/or departmental budgets.
- Organizational, planning, prioritization of tasks, communication, customer service, and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations

- Master’s Degree in Education, Business or a related field.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$79,299 - $87,229
Salary Comments:
Current Washtenaw Community College Employees Salary is determined by BOT Policy 5005***An Administrative Group employee whose job has been reclassified or who is promoted to a new position shall have his/her salary set at the new salary range minimum or at 10% above current salary, whichever is greater. Starting rate/salary is determined based on education and work history listed on application.
