Job Description
York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.
The Financial Aid Counselor will perform the following functions:
- Provide enrollment services counseling and assistance to students, parents, and other stakeholders. Assist in processing awards for financial aid applicants through the Dept. of ED’s electronic processing systems, including processing initial applications and corrections, tracking and coding documents, completing the verification process, generating tracking letters and award notifications, awarding and packaging funds, and processing over-award calculations.
- Partner with Enrollments Services Coordinator to develop and manage financial aid communication flow and documents that provide simple and critical information to students in a timely manner. Review and provide guidance regarding language and content to ensure understanding and timeliness of routine communications to students in the application process.
- Serves as liaison to Dual Enrollment and admission’s team. Counsels and assists students and parents concerning opportunities, application processes, and eligibility for financial assistance programs. Within federal, state, and college guidelines, exercise professional judgement as needed to determine when special circumstances warrant a change in eligibility. Assists in staffing and providing quality customer service in the Enrollment services reception area, tele-counseling/phone duty, including managing student traffic utilizing the administrative software system to verify and document requirements, adjusting awards appropriately, and providing full customer service in a respectful and confidential manner. Assist students/parents with FAFSA filings.
- Serve as a resource to Enrollment Services by serving on committees. Conduct and/or participate in cross-training to deliver and maintain knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service to students.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Bachelor’s degree

At least two years of experience in admissions, financial aid, or student affairs
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree with more than five years of experience in financial aid administration

Skilled in reconciling financial aid awards with accuracy and efficiency

Proficient in communicating and disseminating key financial aid information to management teams and other stakeholders within the college
