Job Description

Coastline College (CC) is seeking a full-time, equity-minded, tenure track faculty member in Accounting commencing with the Fall 2025 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves all areas of Accounting & Taxation.

This assignment includes curriculum and program development, facilitation of student support services, and participation in college committees and participatory governance activities. This assignment also involves multi-disciplinary collaboration with faculty and staff and assumption of leadership roles in the department and the College. As faculty, the position will require ongoing professional development in keeping up with subject matter expertise.

Teaching responsibilities may be assigned during the day, evening, or weekend, fully onsite, online, hybrid, and/or off-campus and is subject to change as needed. Certain courses in the Accounting program are primarily taught at Coastline’s Garden Grove campus. Travel between campuses in Orange County, CA (Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Newport Beach, and Westminster) will sometimes be required. Demonstrated online teaching experience is preferred, but not required. In addition to teaching, job requirements include service to the institution, development of industry, non-profit, inter-departmental, and government partnerships, enhancement of workforce development and career pathways, and to play an active role in outreach to K-12, home schools, and adult education schools. Opportunities may exist for summer and winter intersession teaching for additional pay. The probationary instructor will teach various assignments depending on expertise and department need.

Coastline College serves approximately 18,000 students, awards over 2,000 degrees and certificates, and transfers over 2,000 students to four-year institutions annually. Coastline College offers two-year associate degrees and certificates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide instruction in Accounting, Taxation, and applicable software in accordance with established course outlines such as: QuickBooks, Excel, & TaxslayerPro.
  • Provide leadership in the development and revision of the Accounting curriculum responsive to the students served.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
  • Attain yearly VITA certifications including Site Coordinator as deemed necessary by the Accounting Department to coach, teach, and provide leadership of Coastline’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance courses. VITA Site may be onsite, virtual or hybrid. Yearly participation in this program is essential.
  • Remain current in all subject matter areas, particularly those related to commercial accounting software, updated tax law, new accounting standards, and in techniques of effective and relevant instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines and regular and substantive interaction (RSI) guidelines for online courses; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned.
  • The assignment may include day, evening, weekend, fully onsite, hybrid, dual enrollment, and online sections.
  • Teach 15 Lecture Hour Equivalents (LHE) per semester of assigned courses in accordance with course outlines of record and syllabi.
  • The successful candidate shall infuse equity minded and culturally-responsive practices into their above duties when applicable.

 

Qualifications and Physical Demands

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must meet one of the following qualifications under (1) through (4) and demonstrated evidence of DEISAA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, Anti-racism and Accessibility):
  • Valid California Community College Instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR
  • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration with an accounting concentration; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in business with accounting emphasis or business administration with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis AND master’s in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, or finance; (NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration, with a CPA license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) OR
  • Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials. AND
  • Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Willingness to examine and re-mediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom/course practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in the department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Coast Community College District.
  • Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
  • Ability to work with computers and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and online courses (where academically appropriate).
  • Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Current industry certification(s) in Accounting/ Tax disciplines (active or inactive) (e.g. CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, EA, VITA, CTEC etc.).
  • Current or past involvement with accounting and taxation events such as site coordination, Meet the Firms, conferences, or other outreach activities.
  • Ability to complement existing staff, student, and community demographics in terms of professional and personal skills.

Conditions of Employment

 

PAY PHILOSOPHY
(Fall 2025) For a full-time, 2-semester, tenure-track position a maximum starting range of $66,899 to $114,054 is offered, based on the 2024-2025 salary schedule of $66,899 to $159,488. In addition, an annual stipend of $3,902 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.

Comprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision

Time to Refuel
Vacation
Classified, contract staff earn vacation days commensurate with years of service. Classified Management and Administrators earn 22 days vacation per year.

Sick Leave
All contract employees earn sick leave as outlined in the CA Education Code. Sick leave may be carried over from year-to-year and, upon retirement, unused sick leave may contribute to your PERS and STRS retiree benefit.

Holidays
The District observes 21 paid holidays per year.

Jury Duty, Bereavement, Military Leave
Coast grants contract employees called to jury duty a leave of absence, without loss of pay, for the entire length of required service. Other available leaves include bereavement from 3-5 days and military leaves of absence in accordance with applicable state laws.

Great Expectations
Pension Plans
The District participates in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) and the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) for contract employees. Non-contract employees participate in Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) plan for the first 1,000 hours of their employment.
Additionally, it is the policy of the Coast Community College District that contract employees who retire from the District with ten or more years of service be afforded the same group insurance benefits until 70 years of age. A Medicare Supplement or GAP plan  is available to retirees and their spouses after age 70.

Annuities
The District maintains a program whereby qualified employees may request through Payroll to have a portion of his or her salary deposited under a tax sheltered annuity plan or an approved deferred compensation plan.

Schools First Federal Credit Union
The Schools First Federal Credit Union is a federally insured, full service, financial cooperative that is a not-for-profit organization. Earnings are used to benefit all members to provide a full range of financial services and offerings.
