The University Operations, Events, and Safety division is currently hiring for the position of Pastry Cook 2 within the Morris Inn Hotel. The University Operations, Events, and Safety division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.
Why this position?
This is a skilled bakery lead position responsible for producing recipes, following accepted culinary practices. The Pastry Cook 2 should have excellent baking and organizational skills, be creative,
passionate about food, and able to work well in a team environment as well as individually. This Pastry Cook position is critical to ensuring all diners experience excellent baked goods and being responsive to the changing needs and desires of our customers. Responsibilities include but not limited to bakery production; following recipes, producing and finishing wedding cakes; assisting with inventory counts; accepted culinary practices; participates in general assignments; supporting special and/or catered events throughout campus; performing tasks related to the appearance, safety, and sanitation of food production and service.
Hours and shifts may vary based on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- 1-2 years
Skills
- Must be able to demonstrate high level bakery skills and great attention to detail.
- Must have fundamental working knowledge of the following basic baking techniques: converting recipes both in standard and metric measuring systems, scaling, mixing procedures, proofing, baking, decorating, and frying.
- Ability to solve problems with ease. Must work in a professional, hospitable and empathetic manner to bring the best to the surface of all operations.
- Be welcoming, sincere and provide a great hospitality experience for all university students,
faculty/staff, guests and visitors. - Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance to professional standards.
This position carries many different duties and depending on the assigned area, the percentage of work for the duties and responsibility change. - Ability to communicate well with fellow employees and management orally and in writing.
- Ability to comprehend and perform both routine jobs and special needs with basic instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
ServeSafe Certification
Culinary degree or equivalent is preferred
