JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or designate, the Vice President of Marketing, Development and Communications is responsible to develop, lead, and manage fund development and communication strategies and functions of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS). The Vice President of Marketing, Development & Communications (VP) fulfills a key role in supporting the organization’s projected annual budget growth, generating the resources, partnerships, and platform required to achieve agency goals.
Working closely with agency leadership, Board of Directors, and key staff, the VP designs and implements comprehensive and dynamic strategies and initiatives to promote success of individual, corporate, and foundation giving and achieve financial targets. The VP forecasts, cultivates, and closes on revenue opportunities that meet or exceed the organization’s financial and impact goals. In the marketing and communications function, the VP oversees marketing, communications, events, and brand strategy for the organization’s programs and services, including Chicken Alley Thrift Shop.
Finally, the VP directly supervises the Development Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and other staff as assigned, and assumes senior-level authority of the Chicken Alley Thrift Shop. The VP works closely with the team to build close alliances between the Thrift and the broader activities and mission of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(*):
- Leadership, Supervision, and Organizational Membership
- Lead team in combination with external consultants and resources to develop and execute multi-year strategic goals and annual workplans.*
- Foster efficient and effective cross-functional teamwork and purposeful deliverables.
- Mentor and coach direct reports and support teams, delegating work streams effectively, foster professional growth, and motivate and hold team members to a high standard of excellence.
- Develop and manage budget for all fundraising and marketing activities across the organization.
- Reconcile all donative revenue in conjunction with Finance to produce accurate alignment with General Ledger, production of financial statements, and annual clean audit.
- Operate within framework of MVCS policies and procedures and job descriptions, as applicable.
- Participate in proposal conceptualization, development, and submittal, as appropriate or assigned.
- Encourage direct reports to engage in organizational activities, as applicable. Promote active engagement of direct reports and all staff into agency initiatives and activities. Leads internal communication processes related to organizational citizenship.
- Actively engage with CEO on initiative-taking and/or responsive basis with exceptional communication, follow-up, and transparency.
- Conduct individual supervision in accordance with agency policy.
- Participate in scheduled operational and strategy review with CEO, Vice President of Contracts and Business Development, and other management personnel as applicable
- Serve as an active participant and collaborator on the following: Administrative Leadership Team; Board Committees; Board of Directors; MVCS Program Director Meeting All Staff Meeting; and Quality Management Team, and other committees as selected or assigned.
- Fundraising
- Support the organization’s Capital Campaign and other critical fund development opportunities. Works collaboratively with the Capital Campaign Officer. Operates as “second in command” for the Capital Campaign and actively engages with capital donors in conjunction with the CCO to provide continuity of communications and operations related to our 22.5M campaign.*
- Develop, lead, and manage effective strategies for obtaining donations and grants that advance the organization’s goals and priorities and contribute to financial sustainability.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of diverse donors to build relationships that convert to donative contributions and achieve annual financial goals.
- Lead overall fund development function in the organization to achieve financial goals.*
- Identify and oversee resources to write grant applications, case statements, major gift and sponsorship proposals, technical reports, communication materials, and other documents as necessary to support ongoing fundraising activities. Works closely with the Administrative Leadership Team related to donative fund development.
- Identify and utilize resources including volunteers, staff, publications, and the Internet to identify linkage, ability, and interest of major funders and key supporters.
- Create, implement, and monitor revenue Key Performance Indicators (KPI) * to support internal and external dashboards, learning, improvement, and reporting needs.
- Serve as Senior Leadership LEAD on the following committees:
i. Capital Campaign
ii. Development
iii. Possible Dreams
iv. License Plate
v. Vineyard Charity Golf Classic
- Participate on other committees as appropriate or assigned.
- Brand, Marketing and Communications, and Events
- Provide strategic direction and management support to the creation and execution of an effective organizational marketing, communications, and events plan*to advance fund development priorities and other organizational goals and objectives.
- Lead active creation, maintenance, relevance, and compliance of organization’s brand and marketing research, assets, collateral, events, and messaging.
- Directly oversee the writing and editing of fundraising and marketing communications, advertisements, web site content, speeches, press releases, letters, and articles.
- Serve as strong outward-facing leader for public appearances and responses to media inquiries.
4. Supervision and Support for Chicken Alley Thrift
a. Provides weekly supervision to Operations Director
b. Has on site presence at Chicken Alley to build rapport with management, staff, volunteers, and Advisory Committee members.
c. Reviews and approves expenses, including staff ratios and costs
d. Works in conjunction with Chicken Alley team to support volunteers
e. Reviews monthly Profit and Loss and meets or exceeds financial goals
f. Participates as a member of the Chicken Alley Advisory Committee
g. Innovates, in conjunction with program management, ways to leverage Chicken Alley to strengthen operating margins.
QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:
Master’s Degree in related field preferred, but not required. Bachelor’s degree required.
Demonstrated experience related to sustaining and advancing strategic initiatives. Proven history bringing innovative ideas to fruition. Demonstrated willingness to go “above and beyond” – a requisite characteristics critical to leading a small nonprofit organization with high demands and limited resources.
Exceptional professionalism, follow-through, tact, customer service, communications, and team-building skills. Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Positive and constructive interpersonal capacities are necessary.
Demonstrated competency in marketing, communications, and brand management in a related field.
Excellent written and oral communication at all levels in an organization.
Solid understanding of and facility with social media, particularly Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; Microsoft Office products; Related database/other technologies.
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS:
Non-business hours required to prepare for and launch donative and other public events.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
