Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Dean for Finance, Accounting, Contracts and Analytics (FACA) supports the Dean with all administrative and financial operations of the Robert H. Smith School of Business with a consolidated budget of $125+ million. The position will provide strategic development, direction and implementation of all business operations and financial policies, practices and procedures. Oversee the Financial Management, Data Analytics and Budget at the direction of the Dean. The Assistant Dean advises the Dean on the financial impact of strategic development and growth of new initiatives at the school. The Assistant Dean leads data analysis efforts to optimize cost, benefit and ROI of significant strategic decisions. This position provides direction and implementation of all business operations and financial policies, practices and procedures. This position will manage the day-to-day cash flow forecasting, expense reimbursements, vendor payments, procurement, contracts, grants, etc. using procedures that are transparent and compliant with policies of UMD and USM. This position will work with the CFO and Provost’s Offices of UMD and other campus officials on the College Budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree.

Experience:
  • 10 + years successful experience performing a range of accounting and financial analysis and forecasting, including managerial accounting, document review, variance analysis and reporting, development and use of financial modeling and what-if scenarios and grant administration.
  • 7+ years of managerial experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership, team building, and strategic financial planning abilities.
  • The ability to project a strong positive image of the School through interaction with all constituents.
  • Executive problem-solving skills and the ability to organize and manage complex functions.
  • Exceptional aptitude in financial and budget activities management.
  • Must be skilled in using financial management software commonly used in higher education.
  • Willingness to help team members problem-solve by active utilization of software and databases at the transactional level, as necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational management, financial management, operations management, understanding of academic program administration, and leadership and management experience.
  • Ability to reconcile consolidated financial reports.
  • Proven ability to develop managerial accounting reports, including 5-7 year projections.
  • Strategic understanding of the budget and forecasting process, document review, variance analysis and reporting. Development and use of financial modeling and what-if scenarios.
  • Experience and knowledge with contracts and grants administration.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with faculty, staff and campus officials at all levels.
  • Exceptionally proficient with Excel
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and non-profit reporting.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Higher Education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of University of Maryland, College Park systems and processes preferred but not required.

Additional Information:

  • This position is not fully remote and requires in-person attendance, unless otherwise authorized by the Dean.
  • Salary range $200,000-$250,000.
