Description: The Dallas VA Research Corporation (DVARC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit medical research corporation, providing support for biomedical, rehabilitation, and health services research, as well as education related to issues important to Veterans. DVARC works closely with the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) in Dallas Texas, and is one of a network of 80 such not-for-profit foundations across the nation.
Expected Qualifications:
The selected individual is expected to have one or more of the following qualifications: 1) Experience managing a staff of over 20 employees; 2) 5-7 years of executive experience with a non-profit with annual revenues of at least $2 million; 3) 5-7 years of experience managing and/or overseeing research operations and/or enterprises. The successful candidate should have additional experiences including working with a board of directors, achieving goals based on strategic plans, recruiting and team building, leading customer service activities, and increasing revenue. Additional experience important to the position include government contract administration, grants submission, and management and corporate finance. Candidate must be able to effectively present a vision and mission both verbally and in writing.
Job Description Summary: The Executive Director (ED) of the Dallas VA Research Corporation provides overall leadership, direction, and administration for all programs and services. DVARC employs four administrative staff and approximately 37 research staff.
Position Duties:
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with more than 60 principal investigators through efficient and positive customer service. This includes ensuring that research personnel are provided with appropriate training and support systems, as well as quality service in the areas of grant preparation and management, project and fiscal accounting, human resources, information technology and other administrative functions.
Develop, implement and comply with policies set by the Board of Directors and applicable grantors, as well as federal and state entities. Serve as an authorized representative of the Board of Directors in all matters.
Develop and oversee DVARC human resources management policies and programs, including policies focused on recruitment, training, and retaining qualified research coordinators.
Oversee the care and maintenance of all DVARC financial and physical assets. Develop annual budgets for Board of Director approval.
Coordinate goals and processes with VANTHCS’s Research and Development Service and Education Service.
Take an active role in identifying, soliciting, and securing new research funding sources for the organization, including grants, cooperative research and development agreements (CRADA), donations, sponsorships and other funding sources.
Enhance DVARC’s community and professional visibility.
Ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations and adhere to all applicable federal, state and funding agency regulations.
Conduct annual negotiations with designated federal agencies regarding indirect overhead rates. Meet and maintain requirements to satisfy an A133 audit.
Stay abreast of the non-profit medical research arena and industry/market needs and shifts; recommend and implement modifications to meet changing needs and manage government relations. Research and develop successful programs that introduce new ideas for the advancement of DVARC’s programs and financial well-being.
May perform additional duties as required.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: Compensation and benefits will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Bonus structure tied to income and customer satisfaction. Candidate will be eligible for all Corporation benefits which include health, dental, vision, 401K, vacation and sick leave, etc.
Moving/Relocation Expenses: Not covered
