    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Dental Hygiene Lab Instructor shares responsibility for delivering a quality educational experience for the students in dental hygiene laboratory courses. Available lab sessions are:

    DNHY 1110 Preventive Oral Hygiene Preclinical Instructor – Mondays, 9:00 – 11:40 am

    DNHY 1111 Anatomy of Orofacial Lab Instructor – Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 – 4:30 pm

    DNHY 1112 Dental Radiology Lab Instructor – Thursdays, 2:15 – 4:45 pm

    It is not necessary that candidates are available for all sessions.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work in partnership with other instructors in teaching, reinforcing and evaluating correct dental hygiene skills. Attend all laboratory calibration sessions.
    • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues to lead instructor and program director.
    • Evaluate course-specific skill evaluations for various dental hygiene skills.
    • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of laboratory course objectives.
    • Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the laboratory learning experience and the achievement of satisfactory progress.
    • Provide a professional role model for students.
    • Remain current in the dental hygiene field and information related to teaching responsibilities.
    • Participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings and calibration activities.
    • Complete required continuing education and educational methodology in specific course content.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Ability to set up, organize, and evaluate laboratory sessions.
    • Possesses course-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (i.e. instrumentation, radiography, etc.)
    • Able to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty and other staff.
    • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
    • Commitment to the success of Lakeland students.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced setting.
    • Highly organized and detail oriented.
    • Interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Current Ohio dental hygiene license.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    • Prior teaching experience in a didactic or laboratory setting strongly preferred.
    • Local anesthesia certification preferred.
