Job Title: Business Faculty

Department: ECC Faculty

Reports To: Dean of Academic Affairs

Job Classification: Faculty

Location: Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, IA

Summary: The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effectively teaching coursework in the assigned program area. A course load of 30 load hours per year is required. Teaching schedule will be assigned by the dean and may involve a variety of delivery formats including online, hybrid, and face to face. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will be expected to contribute professional expertise through non-teaching activities to the Division/Program, College and District. The instructor will be responsible for meeting the goals outlined in the Professional Development Plan as highlighted by the College's Quality Faculty Plan, and to advance IVCCD’s Mission, Vision, and strategic initiatives through student learning outcomes and continuous quality improvement.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Effectively organize, prepare, and teach assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi to students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly. Maintain a classroom environment that supports student retention and completion. Holds a minimum of 5 office hours per week; the minimum hours of work per week is 35 hours.
  • Monitors and provides frequent and specific feedback to students regarding the attainment of the learning outcomes and their progress in the course; this includes responding to student emails, phone calls, texts, etc. in a timely manner generally within 48 hours.
  • Contributes as a member of the College community by participating in various committees, program orientations, recruitment and retention, enrollment events, advising, registration, attending faculty meetings and faculty committees.
  • Actively participate in the District’s assessment initiatives; assess the overall student learning in the class by using multiple classroom assessment techniques, documents assessments, and uses the assessment data for instructional improvement. Completes regular year program review cycle and schedules advisory committee meetings as defined by accreditation requirements.
  • Annually engages in professional development activities and seeks information about academic trends and ideas relating to teaching. Maintains and keeps up-to-date on certifications and new trends in the appropriate discipline.
  • Works and communicates professionally with others. Performs in a manner which benefits student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Must meet minimum experience and education requirements specified by Iowa Valley Community College District. Approval to teach in the assigned area as defined by Department of Education and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Master’s degree, and 12 graduate credits in academic discipline for those teaching arts and sciences courses. For persons in vocational-technical education fields without teacher education/experience and degrees, the occupational requirement is 6000 or more hours of recent, practical work experience.

Must have the necessary prior experience to demonstrate expertise in the field to be taught and/or prior teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Candidate must have strong leadership ability; excellent communication skills; and must be ethical, honest, and objective. Experience with and aptitude for working with representatives from business, industry, education, and other agencies in the identification of vocational and general education programming to meet the needs of the department and the college. Ability to assimilate data and to organize presentations for individuals and groups. Skilled in short-term and long-range planning. Committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Commitment and willingness to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, divisional, and institutional levels. Demonstrated ability to teach in both a face-face and online instructional format.
