Job Summary

Participates in the activities required to manufacture autoimmune diagnostic products by following established procedures. Major duties include the manufacturing of tissue sections and their placement onto glass microscope slides for use in Immunofluorescent Assay products.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in all activities associated with the manufacturing of the cut tissue sections and their placement onto glass microscope slides in accordance with written documentation and established procedures.
  • Manufactures a minimum of 11 eight-well or 22 four-well slides per hour on average.
  • Manufactures mouse and rat KSL slides and all types of primate tissue slides in economic quantities.
  • Cleans and maintains all sectioning equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintains accurate, detailed Device History Records and any associated documentation for all manufacturing activities in accordance with the Quality Systems Regulations (QSRs) in a timely manner.
  • Informs supervisor of equipment needs and other supplies required to avoid interruptions in manufacturing schedules. Informs supervisor of broken or deteriorating equipment.
  • Maintains work station and laboratory in a clean and orderly manner. Performs Friday Clean-up responsibilities in a thorough, timely manner.
  • Follows established safety and environmental procedures. Report all safety hazards immediately to supervisor.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works with moving mechanical parts, potentially biohazardous material, potentially harmful chemicals and extreme cold. The employee will be required to work with an extremely sharp cutting blade. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Occasionally the noise level may be high for short durations. The work station requires the employee to remain seated for long periods of time in a prescribed position with hands exposed to a cold environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent; with 4-8 years laboratory work experience. In some instances, exceptions to the years of experience can be made based on management discretion. Excellent manual dexterity required. Ability to work in a sitting position for long periods of time. Ability to work with hands in a cold environment. Working knowledge of usage of a light microscope and basic histology experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, manufacturing documents and SOPs. Ability to write routine reports and SOPs and complete documentation of manufacturing activities. Ability to speak effectively with co-workers or other employees of organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to use the metric system. Ability to count items accurately.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit. The employee must be able to work in a sitting position for long periods of time. Fine motor actions of hands, wrists and fingers are required along with the ability to withstand repetitive hand, wrist and finger movement in cold temperatures for long periods of time. The ability to use hands to manipulate, finger, handle or feel is required. The employee must be able to reach with hands and arms; and talk, see and hear. The employee may be required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Salary Range:

    $19/hr - $23/hr

    Individual compensation is based on the candidate's experience, skills, knowledge, education, certifications, internal equity, budget and or other business and organizational needs.
