Position Summary

 

The position is a full-time federally and/or state-funded position providing tutorial services to incarcerated individuals who are first-generation and full-time college students. The tutorial specialist uses appropriate instructional methodologies to assist students in the mastery of related subject material. The incumbent motivates eligible students to attend College until graduation. Listed below are the primary responsibilities for the position; however, the Director of Student Support Services may assign other professional duties to meet the College's needs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provides tutorial instruction in reading, mathematics, and language skills,
  • Administers and interprets career interest inventories,
  • Provides career life skill training to help students enhance essential life skills in advance of completion of their desired goals,
  • Administers test batteries and develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to address students' academic needs,
  • Monitors students' progress,
  • Provides student progress reports at the end of each semester,
  • Assist Career Consultants with career workshops,
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students or their designee,
  • Serves on College committees,
  • Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical College,
  • Maintains a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity,
  • Complies with any applicable guidelines and policies set forth by the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College.

 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and teambuilding skills, which lead to logical decisions,
  • Experience with day-to-day operations of a busy, multi-service office, including supervision, evaluation, mentoring, and monitoring of students,
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing,
  • Sensitivity to the educational and personal needs of a diverse student body.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; two (2) years of experience with special population students in an educational setting are required. One (1) year of experience in a TRIO program is preferred.

Salary Range: Salary will be determined by placement on the appropriate Alabama Community College System-approved salary schedule. E3 03 ($44,333 - $61,80)
