The Assistant Scientist provides technical support by performing scientific experiments within the Pratico Lab at the Alzheimer Institute at Temple (ACT). Independently handles experiments or research projects requiring advanced knowledge and experience in a specific scientific area or discipline. Maintains records of data, and may be involved in training graduate and medical students in research methods and procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Executing experimental protocols, maintaining records on all experiments, and maintaining equipment. Collect, and organize data using statistical software packages.
- Analyze research results and prepares results for presentation at meetings and conferences, research reports, manuscripts and papers.
- Make moderately complex decisions and resolve research problems within established protocols; require some independent judgment.
- Order supplies, examines instrument malfunctions, and assist in their repair
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and two years of relevant experience molecular biology, biochemistry, primary cell cultures with focus on protein expression and gene (DNA) regulation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Familiarity and experience with cell culture, transfection techniques, western blots, PCR, and cell imaging
- Working knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles
- Self-motivated, keen to acquire new knowledge and skills and eager to produce scientific publications
- Strong organization and record skills to record experiment results and analyze data as well effective communication skills.
- Master’s Degree in Neuroscience
This is a grant funded position.
