Under the supervision of the BMT & Cellular Therapy Finance Manager, the BMT & Oncology Service Line Coordinator is involved with the patient, third party, government, state, and commercial authorization retrieval for high-cost pharmacy product and treatment therapy for the BMT, Oncology and cellular therapy program for inpatient and outpatient settings. This role communicates with patients on billing, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expenses while ensuring the delivery of coordinated services, streamlined procedures, and excellent customer service.
Key responsibilities include tracking and documenting financial reports, managing global contract follow-ups to ensure reimbursement, and providing financial counseling to facilitate account collections. The BMT & Oncology Service Line Coordinator also prepares monthly reports for BMT and cellular therapy high-dollar cases, keeps up to date with all billing, coding and new therapy drugs and educates faculty and staff with any changes or updates. Additionally, this role ensures letters of agreement are secured in collaboration with the contracting office and creates special billing and episode of care in the EMR.
This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes working 2 days onsite at La Jolla Greenwich Dr. and remote.
* Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
* At least three (3) years of recent experience with BMT, Chemotherapy admissions and cellular therapy.
* One (1) or more years of Blood and Marrow Transplant Program experience, with knowledge of Blood and Marrow Transplant & Cellular therapy Global Contracts.
* Experience and proven success in billing and/or collections processes, concepts, systems, and external regulations.
* Thorough knowledge of oncology medical terminology and coding.
* Thorough knowledge of third-party payors and reimbursement requirements, medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT codes.
* Demonstrated working knowledge of the patient referral and authorization process.
* Strong knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, products and county, state, and federal programs, with a strong understanding of the healthcare and insurance authorization process.
* Thorough knowledge of the appeals and denied claims process.
* Familiarity with oncology and BMT clinical trials.
* Knowledge of EMTALA and HIPPA.
* Strong skills in communicating complex information clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS* Experience in global authorizations, billing and reconciliation to commercial and government insurance companies for hospital contracts related to oncology services.
* At least five (5) years' recent experience in BMT and oncology.
* Bilingual: English/Spanish.
* Epic.
* Revenue cycle workflow experience in an oncology setting.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
