DESCRIPTION

The Associate Director of Nursing, Infusion Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and clinical oversight of infusion services within outpatient cancer services. As a change leader and agent, responsible for promoting an environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

Designs and oversees nursing and administrative operations in multiple patient care areas. Accountable for the overall administrative planning and coordination of the staffing, fiscal and material resources. Assists with the development and implementation of new programs and policies. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned areas.

Key responsibilities:
- Establishing strategic partnerships across multiple disciplines and departments to continually improve patient care and access, including team and patient experience
- Mentoring nurse leaders and team members in professional development pathways, including coaching and performance management as needed
- Role modelling effective, collaborative communication in all settings and with all stakeholders, including leaders, team members, physicians and patients
- Facilitating change as part of continuous quality improvement, engaging team and all partners in moving forward through the ability to operationalize excellence
- Ongoing adherence to evidence-based standards of excellence, including all regulatory requirements
- Develops and implements operational processes to ensure quality patient care across departments/units.
- Participates in the development and implementation of patient care practices which meet internal policy, external regulations, and accepted standards across the continuum of care.
- Partners with leadership across services to develop and implement policies and procedures for coordination of care for all patient populations.
- Represents nursing units within purview, and/or across health system on interdisciplinary committees.
- Addresses a range of patient care topics impacting the medical center or health system, such as patient satisfaction levels, quality improvement initiatives, workflow efficiencies and clinical information systems.
- Promotes ongoing leadership and team member ongoing professional development through collaborative goal setting.
- Coordinates the resource needs for areas of responsibility, including the review and approval of budgetary recommendations.
- Prepares and reviews variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses.
- Promotes an environment for collaborative decision making and shared governance across departments/patient care units.
- Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline and staff development.
- Instills strong management practices to create a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and timely achievement of goals and objectives.
- Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in nursing care for units.
- Collaborates with IT managers to develop and implement new or improved patient care information systems and coordinates efforts across units.
- Collaborates with subordinate management to recommend and maintain adequate staffing levels.
- Advises senior leadership of administrative and nursing issues, the needs of individual units, and resolution of these matters.
- Designs and coordinates a patient flow system.
- Works collaboratively with labor relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level.
- Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, employee safety and risk management issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eight or more years of relevant clinical experience, including experience in an oncology setting.

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California.

  • Strong hospital/healthcare management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of hospital or clinical operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.

  • Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining an effective, engaged team culture through leadership by example, mutual respect, trust building through accountability and fostering open communication.

  • Cultivates diversity and inclusion as part of fostering creativity and innovation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced nursing degree / MSN

  • Ten or more years of relevant clinical experience, including progressive leadership

  • Five or more years in a manager or higher level leadership role

  • Experience in an oncology setting

  • Experience in a Magnet hospital setting

  • Management experience in a union environment

  • Experience in clinical quality improvement

  • Experience in change management

  • Certification in relevant area (OCN, NE-BC, etc.)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must pass physical, drug screen and TB test.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $163,800 - $331,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $78.45 - $158.62

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
