The Medicinal Chemistry Principal Research Associate (PRA) reliably and responsibly delivers on independent research initiatives. The PRA will apply technical proficiency with attention to detail to interpret changes in methodological design. Responsibilities include the design and synthesis of small molecule targets within a project. Works with their supervisor in setting the objectives of independent initiatives and may have responsibility for experimental design. This is an onsite position at our San Diego research site.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs, executes, and interprets chemistry experiments, with a high degree of reliability
  • Exercises judgment to help prioritize studies, based on Project impact
  • Performs basic statistical analysis of experimental data, where appropriate
  • Independently conducts experimental troubleshooting on routine problems
  • Assists with publication and patent submission processes
  • Prepares clear written protocols and reports
  • Surveys relevant scientific literature to maintain awareness of issues and trends within the field
  • Effectively presents results at internal Group/Department or Project Team research meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience / Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven technical proficiency and demonstrated skill in planning and interpreting chemistry experiments
  • Uses own judgment to design and execute independent follow-up chemistry experiments
  • Demonstrated understanding of analysis and interpretation of relatively complex experimental
  • data with proficiency in problem solving and protocol refinement
  • Effective communicator (written and verbal), especially within their area(s) of expertise
  • Emerging knowledge of other related fields or disciplines

Required Education Level

  • Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry or related science and 0-2 years of relevant employment experience, or
  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry or related science and 5+ years of relevant employment experience

Pay Range:

$83,600 - $125,400

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
