North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinarian scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.
Essential Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain transgenic mouse colony (genotyping, husbandry, mouse ordering, interacting with vet techs, database management).
- Perform various experimental procedures, including phenotyping the mice, tissue harvesting and preparation, anesthesia administration, and tissue sectioning.
- Keep track of drug inventories for sedatives and anesthetics and maintain detailed logs of usage and disposal of controlled substances. Assist with data analysis.
- Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook. Engage in laboratory research by performing complex lab and research-related service tasks.
- Support the development, design, and conduct of increasingly complex research projects.
- Perform complex tasks independently and adapt methods and procedures to meet research needs.
- Complete specialized treatments in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Work proactively to keep patients clean and comfortable.
- Maintain a clean working environment to ensure Infectious Disease standards are followed, and infection is not spread.
- Handle all medical/biological and infectious waste appropriately.
- Follow all radiation safety, OSHA, IACUC, USDA, AAALAC, and Environmental Health and Safety standards.

Minimum Experience/Education
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Other Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge in rodent colony management, procedures, and training for PIs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clientele, faculty, and supervisor.
- Must be able to lift 60 lbs.
- Prior professional experience in mouse colony management.
- Experience with inventory control and maintenance.
- Ability to work with many different species of research and lab animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered RVT OR LATG
Required License or Certification
- A valid North Carolina Drivers license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
- AALAS certification is required within 6 months of eligibility.
Valid NC Driver's License required
