Job Description
LECTURER, Comparative Media Studies/Writing, to work as a writing-in-the-disciplines specialist in the Writing, Rhetoric, and Professional Communication program (WRAP). Will teach communication within communication-intensive classes primarily in STEM subjects; work with disciplinary faculty and other WRAP lecturers to develop pedagogy, instruction, and assignments that teach the rhetorical principles of written and oral communication; and evaluate and respond to student communication assignments in a variety of contexts and provide guidance to faculty and TAs for evaluating and responding to student communication assignments.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: master’s degree in rhetoric, composition, technical, or professional writing; at least three years of teaching experience; experience teaching technical communication, preferably in WAC or WID contexts; comfort with highly technical subject matter and an understanding of the principles of effectively communicating technical material for multiple audiences; and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, TAs, and administrative staff. PREFERRED: a Ph.D.; familiarity with rhetoric and WAC or WID pedagogy; and experience with assignment design, oral communication instruction, or visual rhetoric. Job #24527
A full-time teaching load is the equivalent of three classes per term; lecturers typically teach up to four communication modules per term embedded within a team-teaching environment.
Salary is commensurate with experience, and MIT offers full benefits for lecturers who work 50% or more of a full-time work schedule.
This is a temporary position, lasting a semester. Expected start date is January 16, 2025. Successful candidates for the temporary position may re-apply for a full-time lecturer track position (3-year appointment) set to begin in September 2025.
