Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Development Specialist is responsible for capital fundraising, planned giving, major gifts, naming rights, grants, and annual campaigns. The Development Specialist also attends community events regularly and coordinates at least 2 events/year to build rapport with USMSM stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
2 years of experience in community fundraising or engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: particularly with presenting information to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to quickly grasp higher education issues, including but not limited to, transfer, articulations, K-12 partnerships, and workforce development.
  • Ability to understand donor needs and link USMSM opportunities to those needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on several projects simultaneously and coordinate with students and faculty.
  • A high level of professionalism with strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with ease.
  • Ability to occasionally travel locally.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to travel throughout the tri-county area.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree.
  • Ability to measure/assess work and solicit feedback.
  • Possess an understanding of computer applications: proficiency in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.

Additional Information:

Salary range $56,000-$70,000.

Physical Demands

  • Some of the physical activity required for this position is office-based, primarily working with a computer.
  • Will require some travel and working with donors at various locations. At events, there is some need to do set-up and take-down of light materials such as literature, signs, etc. 
  • Visual acuity to review materials, designs, publications, etc. 
  • Ability to maneuver around the campus to attend meetings and other campus events. 
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external constituents who have inquiries. 
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • Ability to work adjustable hours as necessary – some weekends, early mornings, and late evenings will be required.
