Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position will contribute to the overall goal of information equity in Maryland.
The primary purpose is to identify and collaborate with Maryland organizations to increase public access to plain language health, safety, insurance, and social services benefits information. The Outreach Assistant will identify consumer materials and help amplify and disseminate the materials through the Hub’s and other organizations’ communication channels. The Assistant will be primarily responsible for collaborating with public and medical libraries and consumer informational referral services, such as 211, MDThink, and local websites and information aggregation services. The Assistant will work closely with the Community Partner Outreach Assistant to plan and manage organizational contacts and relationships.
The secondary purpose of this position is to develop and deliver consumer/patient focused presentations on the quality and suitability of health information and services. These presentations will build on existing Hub resources and work with Hub team members and partner organizations to customize presentations for different public audiences.
Duties:
- Participate in team meetings and coordinate with Hub team members
- Participate in 1-2 annual in-person Hub convenings
- Inform supervisors of partnerships, work products, deadlines, and roadblocks or challenges
- Contribute to Hub tracking and reports
- Create a partnership and information outreach plan, including a tracking system and schedule, and ask for feedback from internal and external colleagues
- Identify and manage a multilingual collection of health, safety, insurance and social services benefits information from partner organizations that the Hub can distribute/amplify
- Identify Hub and partner organization channels to distribute and amplify consumer information throughout Maryland, and implement distribution/amplification
- Present the Hub to partners and triage technical assistance requests to Hub team members
- Research and recommend technology formats, and channels to increase information distribution/amplification
- Promote language access and community engagement strategies to partner organizations
- Develop and deliver in-person, virtual, and hybrid presentations to diverse groups on how to search for and evaluate the quality and suitability of health information and services
- Other duties as assigned

- Minimum 2 years work experience related to position duties.
- Prior experience working with and presenting to community organizations.
- Commitment to and prior experience in outreach to diverse communities and language groups.
- Familiarity with digital information about health, safety, social services, and health insurance information.
- Ability to use Google suite tools, including email, Google drive, Google docs, and Google slides, and Microsoft suite tools, including Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.
Must have valid driver’s license to drive to in-person meetings, events, and fieldwork sites in Maryland

- Master’s degree in one of these areas: public health, communication, information sciences, library sciences, or clinical services in public health settings.
- Basic skills in plain language techniques.
- Proficiency in Spanish or an Asian language.
- Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Suite.
- Prior experience working with libraries and consumer referral services.
Additional Information:
Salary range $65,000 – $72,000 depending on experience. Start date will be after November 15th for 6 months with the possibility of renewal. Possibility of converting position to Faculty Specialist depending on experience.
