Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

 

Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

 

Additional Department Summary: Works as a part of interdisciplinary team of researchers at the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS). Independently contributes to the planning and design of research and creative projects and performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. Assists in both short-term and long-term planning and project goals, as well as in research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings. Duties are specifically related to research activities, require an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.

This position will support CCHS in research and development of an advanced drug delivery approach to selectively tune the impaired immune cells in cancer. Tests the efficacy of the lead candidates in human and murine immune cells. Conducts pharmacokinetic and efficacy studies in mice models. Participates in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist with grant writing, lab maintenance, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.

Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Department of Translational Sciences and Medicine will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of productivity, meeting project requirements and deadlines, and availability of funding.

 

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related discipline. Experience conducting research projects and developing scholarly products such as manuscripts and conference presentations.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong foundation in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, immuno-oncology. Familiarity with biochemical assays, molecular docking, invitro experiments, and in vivo mice experiments. Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel. Strong scientific writing skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience conducting research projects relating organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, immuno-oncology, immunology, targeted drug delivery, and cancer drug discovery.
