Primary Purpose of Position:
Overview: The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (OIRA) is seeking a skilled temporary Web Designer/Developer with expertise in WordPress to revamp our website template and migrate our content into the new template. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of digital accessibility principles and practices, ensuring our website is inclusive and compliant with accessibility standards, and be able to provide samples of websites they have designed and developed.

Responsibilities:
• Consult with OIRA staff and potentially other design and content specialists on campus to understand project requirements and recommend technical solutions.
• Prepare website design proposals for review by OIRA staff.
• Customize WordPress templates to enhance the functionality and appearance of our website.
• Implement responsive design principles to ensure the website renders OIRA content well across multiple devices.
• Ensure the website meets UNC-Chapel Hill digital accessibility standards (https://digitalaccessibility.unc.edu/) and implement best practices for digital accessibility.

Minimum Experience/Education

Requirements:
• Proven experience as a Web designer/developer with expertise in WordPress development.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS
• Familiarity with digital accessibility standards and best practices.
• Experience customizing WordPress themes and plugins.
• Knowledge of responsive design principles and mobile-first strategies.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve website issues quickly and effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality work.

Preferred Skills:
• Understanding of UX/UI design principles.
• Knowledge of website performance optimization techniques.
• Certification in web development or related field is a plus.
