Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland Alumni Association is seeking a dynamic, organized and customer service oriented event professional to join our team.
The Associate Program Director will create strategic, high-impact, and mass engagement events to engage alumni and inspire further involvement with the university. Working closely with the Senior Director of Alumni Events and Programs, the Associate Program Director will independently conceptualize and execute alumni events for audiences ranking from 10 – 1,000+ participants. They will provide full event lifecycle management, including setting objectives, managing event budgets upwards of $200,000+ per event, selecting and contracting vendors , developing program and content strategy, developing staffing plans and run-of-shows, writing marketing messages, creating outreach strategies, overseeing event follow up, and analyzing event metrics and assessment.
In addition to independently creating and managing events, the Associate Program Director will also serve as a key partner with Alumni Association colleagues to provide outstanding event management support. This includes providing a high level of customer service to establish effective communication channels, and act as a liaison with internal and external constituents. This individual must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse campus community while navigating a large, complex organizational structure. They will work with a vast array of constituents including, Board of Governors, leadership volunteers, senior leadership, the president, vice presidents, deans, and development colleagues.
The Associate Program Director must be highly skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities, and have the ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals. Additionally, they must possess the ability to make real-time decisions with sound judgment, juggle multiple concurrent priorities, and possess a strong attention to detail. A successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
This position requires availability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary. Some travel (plane, train, other) required up to 30%.

- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in alumni relations, event management, or a related field.

- Strong experience and understanding of program budgeting and strategic planning.

- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.

- Salary Range is $85,000 to $100,000.
- This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.
