Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

We are seeking a scholar who works at the intersection of media, democracy and technology. While we are open to a range of disciplines and approaches, the successful candidate should demonstrate a research and teaching interest in journalism.

Elements of a research agenda that connect media, democracy and technology in important, innovative ways could include, but are not limited to, some of the following:

  • The future of local journalism
  • Solutions journalism
  • The rule of law and threats to democracy
  • Misinformation, disinformation and propaganda
  • Business models/ethics for the future of journalism
  • Comparative or international media studies
  • Migration
  • Climate change
  • Social media, audience engagement, and participation
  • Privacy, technology, and information policy
  • Algorithmic bias and journalism
  • Computational automation and journalism
  • Artificial intelligence and journalism

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in journalism, information science, communication, media studies, political science, sociology, geography or another relevant field by August 2024, but ABD candidates will be considered.

Preferences:

We prefer candidates who have demonstrated an ability to attract research funding, or show the potential to do so.
