Job Description

HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATOR, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to advise and assist faculty and staff with human resources (HR) matters and act as a liaison with central Human Resources as part of MechE’s HR team.  Will administer HR activities, including appointment administration, recruitment, orientation, performance management and development, employee relations, and compensation.  Responsibilities include participating in HR strategic planning; advising faculty/staff on complex HR issues, resolving and/or referring as appropriate; developing/implementing new policies/procedures in collaboration with departmental leadership and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations; overseeing complex research appointments; advising on visa processing and ensuring appropriate visas are secured; managing complex visitor and affiliate appointments as liaison to the International Scholars Office; compiling data and synthesizing findings for reports; collaborating on managing the annual salary review process for sponsored research staff; advising managers on and/or writing job descriptions; partnering with the administrative officer, Dean’s Office, and Compensation on classification process; collaborating on recommending promotional, market equity, and off-cycle pay increases; assisting with the hiring process, including salary offers and promoting a diverse workforce; providing employee relations guidance; reviewing and approving personnel forms and processing HR transactions; serving as backup for HR team members as needed; and performing other tasks as assigned.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least four years’ HR generalist experience; in-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and current HR principles, practices, and trends; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong computer skills and advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Office; and familiarity with compensation guidelines and salary ranges/bands.  PREFERRED:  SPHR or PHR and familiarity with MIT Personnel Policy Manual and human resources guidelines.  Job #24363-8
