Laboratory Technician

Job Description

A full-time Laboratory Technician position is available immediately to support a research program examining immune responses to two pathogens: influenza virus and Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. Primary duties and responsibilities of the job include conducting general laboratory duties as well as performing research experiments. General laboratory duties include management and maintenance of a colony of transgenic mice, general laboratory reagent generation and testing, ensuring equipment is functioning, and reagents are appropriately stored and tested, and logs are kept, and laboratory trainees receive training and are following procedures. The Laboratory Technician will conduct experiments after discussion with the principal investigator and help other laboratory personnel with experiments as needed and time allows and maintain accurate records and results of their work. The candidate should be comfortable with basic cell biology assays and with conducting experiments with mice; be able to use sterile technique, be comfortable working with biosafety level 2 organisms and they must understand and utilize safe and proper techniques for handling of biohazardous materials. Effective organizational and communication skills, both orally and in writing, are important for this position.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • General laboratory maintenance.
  • Maintain records and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research experiments.


Additional

  • Experience with biosafety level 2 organisms; flow cytometry, mouse handling.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.
  • Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred. Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, or related field.
  • One to Two years related experience.
  • Proven technical knowledge and laboratory experience.
  • Previous research experience in immunology or microbiology, and work with mice.

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY ($56,800 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
