Description

The Bilingual Professional Tutor provides group and individual tutoring support to students, both individually, in small groups, online, and through Zoom for various academic levels. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions 

  • Provide bilingual tutoring support to participants completing basic college requirements.
  • Provide exam reviews for students as needed.
  • Prepare study guide handouts for students.
  • Participate in periodic staff training and development provided by the College and/or the project.
  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Must be well organized, able to prioritize work and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to empathize with the students and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to operate selected software programs relating to the position.
  • Must have the ability to clearly articulate need-to-know information to student, staff, and the public.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to interact successfully with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and excellent subject-matter tutoring skills.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Spanish fluency.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Teaching or tutoring experience.

 


Part Time:

This is a part time position up to 20 hours per week as needed; 10 months per year (September - June).  Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

This is a grant funded position; its continuance is dependent upon funding. 

Pay:   $23.60 per hour

This position is opened until filled; complete applications will be reviewed weekly.
