American Indian Health & Services is a Santa Barbara based, non-profit organization where we provide quality medical, dental, pediatric and behavioral health services to all members of our community. Founded in 1994, our community clinic has served the Central-Coast’s healthcare needs for over twenty years. WHAT WOULD I BE DOING AT THIS JOB?

The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for assisting with all HR departmental functions including employee recruitment, onboarding, employee files, and benefits. Also assists the Human Resources Manager with special projects. Works closely with senior management.

Work Schedule: 35-40 hours/ week, Monday-Friday . Onsite only. Non-exempt.

  • Assists with recruitment: job postings, candidate communications, records and metrics.
  • Assists with new employee onboarding and orientation to welcome new employees to the organization, ensure that all required training is completed, and benefits enrollment is completed. Confirms new hire and separation checklists and packets.
  • Maintains employee files, and conducts periodic audits under the direction of the HR Manager
  • Assist HR Manager with records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, raises, schedule changes, leaves of absence, performance reviews, and terminations.
  • Along with HR Manager, communicates with employees and insurance brokers regarding benefit and insurance plans, and assists with facilitating open enrollment.
  • Tracks and coordinates annual required trainings for all staff in conjunction with the HR Manager.
  • Assists HR Manager with HRIS system management
  • Receive and resolve employee and manager questions regarding benefits and other general human resource related needs in the absence of the HR Manager
  • Works with the HR Manager and other members of the Finance and management team on quality improvement projects
  • Processes payroll, manages payroll documentation, produces necessary reports, and communicates with managers and staff regarding payroll or timekeeping.

WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION DO I NEED?

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Additional education in Human Resource Management a plus but not required if you have experience working in Human Resources

WHAT TYPE OF SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

  • 1-2 years of experience in general Human Resources functions
  • Experience in payroll management a plus but not required
  • Understanding of basic HR principles, processes, and CA state and federal employment laws
  • Willingness to take professional education to improve Human Resources knowledge and skills
  • Excellent understanding of confidentiality as it pertains to Human Resources
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal business communications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Office, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Willingness to take direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

Starting Salary: $25.00 - 35.00 depdending on experience

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
