Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Enterprises and Events (UEE) division is currently hiring for the positions of On-Call Host/Hostess, On-Call Dining Room Attendant (DRA), On-Call In Room Dining Server, and On-Call Rohr’s Server at the Morris Inn. The UEE division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.

Host/Hostess
The Host/Hostess will engage with our internal and external guests in a professional, welcoming, consistent and joyful manner in order to ensure the experience is a memorable one while creating return guests for the Morris Inn.
Essential duties for the Host/Hostess include:
  • Manage the OpenTable software to seat, assign tables, and other restaurant duties
  • Information gathering for the front of house, back of house team members, and the guest
  • Seating guests to optimize the dining experience, pacing of the service team, and the optimal use of the dining room.
  • Menu presentation and communicating with server to seated table
  • Answering phones according to service standards
  • Reservation confirmation with guests
  • Execute all guest interactions with a joy for serving others; all while demonstrating professionalism, job knowledge, grace, respect, and friendliness.
  • Alert server about all special notes in a reservation including allergies, special occasions, past experiences, etc.
  • Update Guest Experience Profile each visit and alert management of any issues

Dining Room Attendant
The Dining Room Attendant provides service to restaurant guests; assist servers with prompt and courteous service to guest by replenishing water and condiments, carrying trays, and removing used dishware. This person will clear tables of dishes, glassware and silver, stacking them as instructed, and move them to the dishwashing area for cleaning; adhere to established Morris Inn recycling practices as well as exercising caution when handling china, glassware and silver.

In-Room Dining Server
The In-Room Dining (IRD) Server provides detailed, and expeditious service to our guests. Preparing, transporting, and serving food and beverage (both alcohol and non-alcoholic) items, amenities, etc. to hotel guest rooms, and banquet meeting and dining rooms, in accordance with all UEE Hospitality Standards are essential responsibilities for this position.
Essential duties for the IRD Server include:
  • Must have the ability to exercise extreme discretion and exemplary professionalism while in and around guest rooms, and private areas
  • Bus tables, and remove service items from guest rooms, hotel hallways, meeting and banquet dining rooms, hotel lobby, terrace, etc.
  • Lift and carry a tray for beverage and food service according to standards
  • Respond immediately to safety and cleanliness concerns in the work environment
  • Repeat tasks often, and re-prioritize assigned tasks as needed to support service for others
  • Providing concierge service such as sharing knowledge of food and beverage, Notre Dame, South Bend, and specific events on and around campus
  • Anticipating and taking action, to suggest and offer additional items that enrich the guest experience
  • Clean and maintain Room Service equipment and supplies

Rohr’s Server
The Rohr’s Server provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service to others, including all elements of hospitality; such as anticipation, recognition, and responsiveness to the needs of others. The Rohr’s Server will conduct oneself with optimism, work integrity, empathy, and self awareness.
Essential duties for the Rohr’s Server include:
  • Greeting, describing and explaining food and beverage offerings, creating guest orders and communicating guest orders accurately
  • Serving food and beverages according to standards, assuring continued food and beverage service at all times, presenting guest checks and securing payment
  • Carry food and beverage items using trays when possible into and from the dining rooms and from the kitchen or bar
  • Perform accounting processes to meet standards for server banking
  • Perform additional tasks necessary to support maintaining a hospitable work environment, including all side work, cleaning, and support for others

Minimum Qualifications
