Class Description
The purpose of this class is to provide academic, mentoring, and support services to participants in the STEM Core Program, as well as assist the STEM Core Director in securing private industry and public entity internships in the STEM field for STEM Core participants.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree required, in a STEM field preferred. One year of full time or two years of part time experience in education, counseling, providing instruction, advising, and/or academic support services required.
Class Specific Essential Duties
- Work a 19.5 hour work week at the Catonsville or Essex campus. Must be available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday's from 10:00am-1:00pm.
- Provide wraparound student support to all participants to help them address challenges inside and outside of school including, but not limited to, developing successful study habits, communicating and working individually with faculty, attaining work experience, transfer prep, financial aid assistance, and referrals to on- and off-campus services as needed, etc.
- Work with faculty and project partners to deliver high-quality and engaging program orientations each semester in order to build cohort community, introduce faculty and partners, and implement study skill development
- Attend most class sessions in order to monitor student attendance, course content, student achievement, and maintain a handle on concepts taught in class to liaise with program tutors.
- Meet with each student individually once per month to assess progress, relay information from professors, make necessary referrals, etc.
- Organize and Facilitate Study Skills workshops as needed covering topics such as, but not limited to, Time Management, Stress Reduction at School, etc.
- Create and distribute all program marketing materials including fliers, applications, etc.
- Assist STEM Core Director in securing internships for STEM Core participants.
