Job Description

BOAT RIGGER, Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) (part-time, 21 hrs/wk.), to provide intercollegiate rowing coaches with the high-caliber services necessary for the daily operations associated with maintaining a highly competitive rowing team and fully functional sculling program.  Will be responsible for repairing and maintaining fleet of rowing shells; repairing and maintaining coaching launches and outboard motors; maintaining rowing machines and other training equipment and driving shell trailer to away contests; and performing other general carpentry duties as needed.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; five years’ boatwright experience or five years’ experience in boat repair and rowing experience; knowledge of carbon fiber hull repair and shell rigging; effective communication skills and ability to work closely with personnel affiliated with boathouse facility and athletic department administrators; ability to prioritize multiple tasks; willingness to perform various duties related to carpentry and mechanical repair; and a current driver’s license.  Rowing experience is not required but thorough knowledge of rowing is a must.  PREFERRED:  Knowledge of welding.  Job #24161

Hourly rate: $48.60

MIT school year schedule:  Monday, 3:00 - 8:00 P.M.; Tuesday - Friday, 3:30 - 7:30 P.M.
Summer schedule:  Monday, 6:30 -11:30 A.M.; Tuesday - Friday, 6:30 - 10:30 A.M.

Flexibility with regard to the work schedule, including overnight travel, is also required.

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
