Job Description
Great Basin College is seeking a Humanities Center Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of GBC’s Humanities Center, an initiative designed to strengthen the Humanities for all GBC campuses and service areas. The coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the Center’s interactive online portal and its contents. In addition to orchestrating professional development, mentoring, and training opportunities offered to faculty as part of the “Humanities Teaching Toolkit,” the coordinator will also organize and oversee the annual “Humanities in Action” series, during which speaking, and lecture events will be held within live and online environments. The coordinator will assist with grant or other funding as needed for the Center’s events and projects, oversee social media messaging, and promote the Humanities Center. The coordinator will work collaboratively with the Humanities Center Board and Director to create relevant humanities programming to the GBC online community and the Great Basin College campuses.
 
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Associates of Arts degree with a Humanities/Arts emphasis
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in humanities/arts, including effectively organizing collaborators and events
  • Experience managing websites
  • Experience with multi-media, audio, and visual projects
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with live and virtual event planning and coordination
  • Ability to coordinate projects involving multiple departments across the institution
  • Ability to partner with stakeholders from state and national organizations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Self-motivated
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with budgets and grants
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience creating graphics for print and online marketing
  • Experience working with and under the guidance of an Advisory Board
  • Experience managing social media for a non-profit organization
 
Responsibilities:
  • Commitment to the college mission-Transforming Lives Through Education.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members within the college and community in pursuing the Humanities Center goals with a genuine spirit of cooperation, and flexibility in a diverse college setting.
  • Produce a HC@GBC e-newsletter twice a year – once in fall & once in spring.
  • Locate potential grant opportunities for the Humanities in Action initiative, assisting GBC Grants Director in writing & applying for grants/funding.
  • Schedule and host meetings of the HC Advisory Board. The director will serve as the primary contact for the board.
  • Assist the director in organizing meetings of the HC@gbc Book Club.
  • Organize live events such as author visits, performances, festivals, and other humanities-related showcases, conferences, and activities.
  • Continue to contribute content to the HC@gbc website such as photos, video, or text-based material.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
This is a 12-month, part-time, non-benefits eligible position, working up to 79 hours per month.
This position will be under the direction of the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
 
Salary:
$35.00 per hour
