Power Marketer - ERCOT

Job Description

Primary Purpose
Conducts and schedules energy transactions to optimize the profitability of the power portfolio and contribute to power desk revenue. Analyzes and executes opportunities in ERCOT including CRRs, virtual bids, point-to-points and financial transactions on ICE. Supports business development opportunities in Texas by providing market data and expertise. Contributes to the development and maintenance of proprietary tools and datasets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with Managing Director to develop an ERCOT focused portfolio and oversee the day-to-day execution of the entire ERCOT portfolio. Leads and manages ERCOT priorities and strategies.
  • Participates in project development opportunities to support LNG and Low Carbon Solution business lines.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis and prepares reports as needed.
  • Participates in Sempra Infrastructure's compliance program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or Data Science required.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the electric power industry, including experience in energy transactions or equivalent training and/or experience required.
  • Working with network models in a modeling platform such as PowerWorld, UPlan, ProMod, Plexos, Dayzer, MATPOWER, etc. preferred.
  • Working with C# preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of energy markets, including market principles, trends, behaviors, counterparties, electric transmission grids, transaction principles, and other operational requirements.
  • Knowledge of economic, financial, and physical principles governing energy transactions.
  • Fundamental knowledge of ERCOT, including network topology, generation and load characteristics, flow patterns and congestion drivers.
  • Ability to write code to automate processes and build tools that support the group's priorities.
  • Proficiency with SQL databases, with an ability to both write raw data to tables in an organized manner and query data to support commercial decisions.
  • Ability to use a variety of information sources, which may include incomplete data, to derive meaningful conclusions that inform energy transactions.
  • Knowledge of credit matters and risk management principles.
  • Ability to work on a closely integrated team.
  • Ability to work weekends when needed in keeping with the transmission congestion auction calendars.

HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 3 days per week onsite.
