The Leidos Military and Veterans Health Solutions Operation has an opening for an Injury Epidemiologist to join the Operational Readiness Directorate at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA.

This position will provide epidemiological research support to the Epidemiology and Data Management Support Department and involves research on injuries and outcomes among military personnel to improve health and readiness. This work will include collaborating with other researchers in the Department, contributing to the implementation and execution of research studies, conducting statistical analyses, and drafting scientific documents such as abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and funding proposals.

This is a full-time position in San Diego with a hybrid work schedule (on-site and telework). The candidate for this position must be located within commuting distance of San Diego to work on-site at the Naval Health Research Center as needed, typically 1-2 days per week. The number of days on-site may vary, and the schedule is subject to change based on program and customer requirements. Work hours will coincide with the standard command business hours of 0700-1630.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct epidemiological studies on injuries and outcomes among U.S. military personnel that are innovative, relevant, and actionable in a military setting.

  • Contribute to study administration tasks, such as the development, modification, and submission of IRB protocols.

  • Collaborate with department researchers on projects that utilize advanced research methods.

  • Utilize statistical software and programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python) to conduct analyses across multiple integrated datasets.

  • Identify and apply appropriate statistical methods to evaluate data, interpret results, and identify clinical and military relevance.

  • Write and prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations on research findings.

  • Review scientific reports, manuscripts, and other documents for accuracy in content, statistics, and data interpretation.

  • Assist in researching, preparing, and submitting research proposals for funding.

  • Attend scientific meetings and present results and study findings to appropriate audiences.

  • Work independently to achieve day-to-day objectives that impact operational results and project deliverables for the department.

  • Ensure tasks are completed on time for mission requirements.

  • Assist other staff with tasks as needed for customer mission.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ph.D. in epidemiology from an accredited U.S. college or university.

  • Knowledge of military health issues, including physical injury and related outcomes.

  • Expertise in statistical theory and methodology used in epidemiology.

  • Expertise in statistical analysis software and programming languages (SAS, R, or Python).

  • Understanding of methods and techniques of compiling, analyzing, and evaluating statistical and other research data for prospective and retrospective study designs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

  • Ability to complete all aspects of epidemiological research from study conceptualization through manuscript publication.

  • Ability to self-start, plan and prioritize tasks, demonstrate leadership, and work independently and in a team.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with military leadership, team members, and internal and external collaborators.

  • Ability to manage multiple research projects at once and reprioritize as necessary.

  • Hold US Citizenship and the ability obtain and maintain a SECRET government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold an active Interim or Secret Security Clearance.

  • Previous experience in a military research environment.

Pay Range:Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
