DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Building Programs and Health Campus Development, the Programming and Design Manager will serve as principal UC San Diego Health interface for the design and construction of Healthcare capital projects, including new construction, major renovations, expansions, major infrastructure and other high-profile projects.

As a subject matter and industry expert, the incumbent will advise senior management in the designing, planning and managing of complex and highly specialized clinical enterprise capital projects. As such they will serve as the primary contact for the project team in their area(s) of expertise.

In this role, the Programming and Design Manager will collect, develop, and analyze operational data to inform project requirements, adjacencies, and spatial implications. Role will prepare and communicate information regarding staffing workflow, acceptable materials, equipment, and other duties as assigned. Will represent UC San Diego Health Campus Development for strategic building projects/programs to ensure that best practices are implemented and the needs of UC San Diego Health are met. Will serve as department representative when Senior Director is not available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 11 years of related healthcare programming and design experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area (such as architecture, engineering, healthcare administration, or other planning-related field) plus Seven (7) years of related experience/training.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suites and project management software skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to lead and work collaboratively and effectively with multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams, and with executives, providers, and staff at all levels; experience facilitating integration and collaboration.
  • Ability to employ interpersonal skills in situations calling for tack, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  • Working knowledge of architectural design application programs including but not limited to AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations to senior leaders.
  • Expert project management skills to effectively manage highly complex, multiphase projects or specialized critical project components within an occupied academic medical center.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state and local laws, and regulations governing planning, building design and construction, including but not limited to, TJC, HCAI/OSHPD, NFPA and CDPH requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare building design and construction standards.
  • Expert understanding of healthcare planning and design practices and / or highly specialized complementary disciplines such as building systems, infrastructure, civil engineering or construction logistics and disruption mitigation.
  • Advanced financial skills to monitor and interpret detailed project budgets.
  • Expert skill in advising and consulting with senior leaders, interdisciplinary stakeholders, project managers, design professionals and construction contractors.
  • Expert skill in promoting, advancing and implementing programs within area of expertise.
  • Expert skill in building, maintaining and nurturing strong professional relationships.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • License to practice in architecture or engineering.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn UC San Diego Health organization, structure, clinical, and administrative departments.
  • Master planning experience in an academic medical campus or hospital complex setting.
  • Construction or project management certification from a relevant organization.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $124,400 - $243,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.58 - $116.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
