Summary of Position

Under the direction and supervision of Director of Education and Promotion, this position provides expertise in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of comprehensive sex education.

This position is responsible for using a researched-based public health approach to design, deliver and assess well-being and comprehensive sex education (CSE) programs to the UNH Durham community in accordance with the UNH Comprehensive Interpersonal Violence Prevention Plan. This position works closely with the organization’s medical team, wellness coaches, health educators and campus partners.

The Sexual Well-Being Educator/Counselor is a subject-matter expert on sexual health and sexual well-being and as such serves as a consultant to the UNH community through representation on campus committees and initiatives. Additionally, this position is responsible for designing, recruiting, and managing the sexual health internship program. The role requires a strong skill set and knowledge in overall health and wellness, expertise in sex education, social justice, public health, cultural competency, public speaking and group facilitation, health communications, and supervision.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Designing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based public health initiatives, including but not limited to curriculum design, social marketing campaigns/health communications.
  • Deep knowledge in comprehensive sex education and wellness.
  • Strong written, verbal, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong commitment to and knowledge regarding social justice and anti-oppression.
  • Supervision of students that meets learning and programmatic outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of college health.

Duty/Responsibility

Public Health Education, Outreach, and Assessment:
  • Design sex education prevention programs from a social-ecological approach that is grounded in best practices in comprehensive sex education and that centers intersectionality of identity and well-being.
  • Adhere to best practices in the field of comprehensive sex education;
  • Adhere to best practices in the field of sexual health services in college health;
  • Design comprehensive sex education (CSE) programs and curriculum that are medically accurate, developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and shame-free.
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual programs/trainings for UNH students and. Audiences may include, but are not limited to academic classes, residential life, student staff, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Athletics, student organizations, and professional staff departments.
  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools to monitor effectiveness and learning outcomes of programs and services. Utilize data to make changes to programs and services.
  • Monitor and integrate best practices and legislation in college health, wellness, stress, emotional well-being, sexual well-being, gender and sexual identity, and overall health.
  • Manage program requests, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Maintain program data for annual reports and strategic planning.

Duty/Responsibility

Student Development and Supervision:
  • Manage CSE internship program which includes recruitment, training, evaluation, and supervision.
  • Co-manage sexual health and well-being internship program which includes recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Meet academic standards of supervision for students who participate in internship for academic credit.

Duty/Responsibility

Public Health Communication:
  • Assist with public health responses (e.g., Mpox).
  • Collaborate to provide health communications and community engagement related to public health issues, concerns (e.g., Mpox).
  • Contribute to and promote Health & Wellness marketing and social media.
  • Write health content for key messaging documents, handouts, brochures, Website, social media. Implement social marketing campaign through research, writing content, designing and disseminating health information (e.g., CDC’s Get Yourself Tested).

Duty/Responsibility

Community Engagement:
  • Advise UNH senior administration how to respond to concerns of university stake holders (e.g., Board of Trustees, state legislature members, community members) regarding organization’s CSE education.
  • Participate in H&W’s sexual health task force to oversee the implementation of best practices in sexual health care.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and campus partners and represent H&W, as needed on university task forces & committees.
  • Build collaborations with off-campus partners.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus-wide public health campaigns.
  • Serve as a member of the IPV Prevention Plan advisory board.
  • Collaborate with SHARPP on IPV prevention programming.
  • Provide guidance to campus partners on best practices in sex education.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders at UNH, in the state of New Hampshire, and in college health.
  • Adherence to UNH’s IPV prevention plan.
