Your Role

The Total Rewards team is committed to creating and providing programs that support our employees personally, professionally, and financially, so in turn they can address the needs of our members and transform healthcare. Reporting to the Sr. Benefits Manager, the Senior Benefits Analyst will be responsible for project managing Blue Shield of California's high-profile benefit program changes throughout the year. This person will work closely with the Sr. Benefits Manager and Director to execute on the Total Rewards Roadmap and with three other analysts on the Benefits team to ensure new and existing programs are running smoothly. We're looking for a passionate benefits professional who is excited about making a difference to Blue Shield's benefit, retirement and leave of absence programs, while modeling strong leadership behaviors.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze and develop benefit plans, programs and policies covering accident and health insurance coverage, retirement and pension plans, income continuance, workers' compensation, leave of absence/time-off, holidays and vacations
  • Research, analyze, and develop modifications to benefits programs to meet company objectives and evaluates and recommends needed changes or enhancements in company benefits programs in response to problem and opportunity areas
  • Review existing benefits plans and programs to determine need for changes and enhancements; propose plan design changes to meet company needs
  • Ensure benefits data is gathered and prepared for actuarial review or annual renewal review, and ensure data is gathered and prepared for survey participation where necessary
  • Project manage benefit program implementations and annual processes, such as benefit, retirement, and leave of absence changes, annual vendor renewals and open enrollment, request for proposals, compliance updates, and non-discrimination testing
  • Develop strong relationships with third-party vendors and internal stakeholders to successfully deliver on assigned project
  • Stay informed of regulatory and legislative changes that could impact Blue Shield of California's benefit, retirement, and leave of absence programs
  • Oversee compliance calendar to ensure necessary documents are updated and distributed on time and in compliance.
  • Educate and train Shared Services team, HR:Connect, and vendor's call centers on benefit, retirement, and leave of absence programs, policies and systems
  • Lead annual vendor renewal process and participate in benefit program budgeting with Finance team
  • Review and improve current reporting and auditing processes for benefit and retirement programs
  • Respond and resolve escalated benefit and retirement issues, as needed
  • Educate others and advocate for benefit programs design and philosophy

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Requires at least 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires proficient Microsoft Office program and strong Excel skills
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to take a complicated topic and explain it in a simple way.
  • Requires a passion for inclusion, diversity, and accessibility, especially as they relate to employee programs and company policies.
  • Requires knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory and compliance laws; e.g. ERISA, PPACA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, etc.
  • Requires excellent strategic planning skills, creative problem-solving capability, and project management skillset
  • Requires strong analytical skills that can take data sets to tell a compelling story.
  • Requires successful track record of working well under pressure, adapting to changing priorities and ability to work successfully in a fast paced, rapidly transforming and results oriented environment.
  • Requires ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion & good judgement.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to take a complicated topic and explain it in a simple way.
  • Requires strong skill set in Microsoft Office programs including Excel

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 87230.00 to $ 130900.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
