Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This Contingent II full-time staff member will coordinate projects and contribute to the overall administration of Carillon Communities, a living-learning program for first-year students at the University of Maryland. This person will work with the program’s staff with the planning, coordination, and management of administrative tasks related to the curricular and co-curricular functions of the program. Primary areas include assuring the efficient functioning of the Carillon Communities staff and program in service to faculty and students; coordinating events, meetings, and class scheduling; managing student rosters and verifying student registrations; and assisting with program purchases and tracking expenses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:
Four years experience in administrative staff work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of reference and research methods and techniques used in collecting, compiling, and organizing data and information, working knowledge of analytical and statistical principles and techniques.
  • Skill in the use of office automation software and its applications, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to handle sensitive materials with discretion and tact, to present ideas and information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to perform mathematical computations; to present statistical material in chart and graph form.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and set priorities.

Other:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Knowledge of and skill in application of office practices and procedures.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple offices.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats with diverse audiences and via multiple media with the varied constituencies of Carillon Communities (students, parents, faculty, staff, visitors, and others).
  • Ability to multitask and triage multiple concerns of students and administrators
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Provide a high degree of customer service and professionalism.
  • Preference for a candidate with administrative experience in higher education and/or interest in higher education policies and procedures. Should be a self-starter with a proven record of attention to detail, follow-through, and reliability.
  • Preference for a candidate familiar with Carillon Communities (including Carillon alumni and past Peer Mentors and Ambassadors) or other living-learning programs.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and small carry parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Employee is expected to work throughout the year, except when the university is closed. The schedule primarily occurs between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday; there are occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
