Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Maryland Crime Research and Innovation Center (MCRIC) engages with academics across the University of Maryland system and communities, practitioners, and policy makers, in Maryland and nationwide, to provide data-driven research and data analysis to inform crime reduction strategy and enhance public safety. The Center offers academic expertise, conducts research, integrates data, builds partnerships between government, academia, and industry, and develops and evaluates innovative criminal justice strategies aimed at preventing and reducing crime.
The Senior Faculty Specialist will join a multi-disciplinary research team consisting of faculty, research staff, graduate students, and community partners.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the job include:
- Provide oversight, coordination, and project management for the research activities of the Center
- Provide support for academic researchers and practitioners engaged in center research projects
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key external (e.g., practitioners, community members) and internal (e.g., UMD researchers, centers, and institutes) stakeholders
- Supervising data analysts embedded in local police departments.
- Administering and managing Center-related data, including data-related requests and data use agreements
- Overseeing project management for all MCRIC projects, including monitoring progress and documenting the projects development
- Assisting with data analysis and evaluation,
- Assisting with grant application (grant writing, budget preparation) and progress report submissions.
The development of an independent line of research is encouraged and will be supported through MCRIC including developing a portfolio of external awards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience
- Experience in data management, research design, and program evaluation
Preferences:
Preferences:
- PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related behavioral or social science field.
- Experience in data management, research design, and program evaluation
- Excellent quantitative data analysis skills
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
- Experience with grant writing and management preferred
- Applicants who have research experience related to policing, working with administrative datasets, and/or community-based research will be given strongest consideration.
