Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Physics invites applications for a professional track faculty member at the level of Lecturer. This is a 12-month full time position. The successful candidate will assist with the instruction, development, and implementation of the undergraduate lab classes. Responsibilities include: 1) teaching three lab classes in the fall and spring semesters plus two lab classes in the summer; 2) training and supervision of teaching assistants; 3) collaborating with other faculty and staff to maintain and develop the laboratory curriculum. Additional responsibilities may include advising undergraduates, participation in grant development, and other miscellaneous academic duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in experimental physics and substantial experience with laboratory instrumentation. Candidates with instrumentation training and an alternate advanced degree in a closely related field will also be considered. A strong commitment to teaching excellence is required.
Additional Information:
Applicants should provide CV, List of three work-related references, letter of application and statement of teaching philosophy and experience. The initial contract length will be for two years with future renewable contracts by mutual
agreement. Professional track faculty positions do not count toward or lead to tenured or
tenure-track positions at University of Maryland, but do include a promotion
ladder. Professional track instructional faculty play a crucial role in the academic life of the
Department. The commitment of the department to undergraduate education has been
recognized through numerous awards to faculty for their teaching accomplishments.
