Develops and teaches classes in Basic and Architectural Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).
Specific Position Duties
The role of the part-time Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) adjunct instructor, is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise, and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles, and delivery methods, including new technology systems, will be utilized to reach this goal. Classes may be held in person, over the internet or using a combination of both as a hybrid course.
- Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional courses while maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field (classroom and lab).
- Provides students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.;
- Develops supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners. Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives;
- Maintains accurate records of students’ attendance and performance and updates course information as well as grades in Blackboard.
- Implements new teaching strategies as appropriate. Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity.
- Evaluates textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency, making recommendations as necessary as per established policy
- Submits reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Adheres to assigned teaching load/hours. Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities.
- Integrates new technology in instructional delivery methods to engage the students.
- Adheres to/enforces policies and procedures related to academic coursework.
- Maintains a hazard free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
- Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, provides timely electronic communication, and other suitable means.
- Keeps students advised of their progress in class and when needed, refer students to the Learning Resource Center or other student support centers for additional assistance.
- Adheres to college’s rules and regulations for faculty.
- Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair. ·
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge in the use of multi-media technology and computers.
- Commitment to Odessa College’s mission statement and overall vision.
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrate a firm grasp of computer-aided design software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree and relevant technical training, certification, or experience in the teaching discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience.
Reporting Relationship
Director of Construction Management.
